During anterior retraction with sliding mechanics, the vertical position of the force attachment affects the line of action relative to the center of resistance of the anterior segment. Because anchorage positions and planned force systems vary, a single sliding-hook length may not meet every customer’s requirements.
From a 3mm Hook to Longer Options
A customer found that the original 3 mm sliding hook was too short for the planned retraction mechanics and requested longer alternatives.
Based on this requirement, SINO ORTHO developed 6 mm and 8 mm custom sliding hooks. The hooks are CNC-machined from 304 stainless steel and have an internal archwire opening of 0.022 × 0.028 inches.
The two lengths provide different vertical points for applying the retraction force. This allows the clinician to select a hook height that better matches the intended force vector and its relationship to the center of resistance of the anterior segment.
The resulting tooth movement still depends on the complete orthodontic force system, including the anchorage position, direction of traction, archwire, and individual treatment conditions.
Following development of the longer configurations, the customer proceeded with a bulk order.
This project expanded the available length options beyond the original 3 mm design. Other hook lengths and internal opening dimensions can also be evaluated according to customer specifications through SINO ORTHO’s OEM/ODM service.
