· Insight
In orthodontic space closure and sliding mechanics, the position of the retraction hook directly affects the force vector. A properly designed orthodontic sliding hook helps guide the traction force closer to the tooth’s center of resistance, supporting more controlled bodily tooth movement.
· Challenge
The initial 3 mm hook was too short for the customer’s clinical requirement. When the hook height is insufficient, the force vector may act below the center of resistance, increasing the risk of unwanted tipping during retraction.
· Upgrade
Based on clinical feedback, Sino Ortho developed longer custom sliding hook options, approximately 6 mm and 8 mm, with a 0.022 × 0.028 slot. The optimized archwire hook design helps improve force control, reduce tipping tendency, and support translation-oriented orthodontic mechanics.
